A Pokemon type chart tells you which attacks hurt a Pokémon most: a type it is weak to deals double damage, a type it resists deals half, and a type it is immune to deals none. In 2026 the chart still holds 18 types, and every one of them has at least one weakness.
This version reads the chart as a defender. Each type below shows what it fears, what it shrugs off and a real Pokémon that carries it, followed by dual-type math, Tera Types and Pokémon GO.
What Is Each Pokemon Type Weak To?
Every type takes double damage from one to five others. Normal and Electric have the fewest weaknesses, one each, while Grass and Rock have the most, five each. Steel resists the most, 10 types plus an immunity to Poison. Eight immunities exist in total, and Ghost is the only type with two.
Weak To, Resists and Immune To: The Full Pokemon Type Chart
The chart has 324 matchups. The table keeps only those that change damage: 51 weaknesses, 61 resistances and 8 immunities.

Damage Multipliers From Zero to Four Times
- 2x: the move’s type is super effective against one of the defender’s types.
- 4x: both types are weak to it, as with Rock against Charizard, a Fire/Flying type.
- 0.5x: one type resists it.
- 0.25x: both types resist it.
- 0x: either type is immune, which overrides any weakness on the other.
Attackers add a 1.5x Same Type Attack Bonus when a move matches their own type, so a weakness hit with a matching move lands at 3x, or 6x against a double weakness.
What Each Pokemon Type Fears
Every Pokémon pictured carries the type in its official Pokédex entry. Weaknesses come first, then resistances and immunities.
1. Normal: One Weakness, One Immunity

Weak to: Fighting | Resists: None | Immune to: Ghost
Normal’s only weakness is Fighting, and just one dual typing turns it into 4x: Dark/Normal Obstagoon, since Fighting hits both halves. Eevee and other pure Normal types take neutral damage from 16 of the 18 types.
Ghost moves cannot touch Normal, an immunity it has held since the 1996 originals, but it resists nothing. To protect a Normal-type, pair it with a Psychic, Flying or Fairy partner, all of which resist Fighting.
2. Fire: Water, Ground and Rock

Weak to: Water, Ground, Rock | Resists: Fire, Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel, Fairy
Fire/Flying Charizard and Bug/Fire Volcarona take 4x from Rock, and Fire/Rock Magcargo takes 4x from both Water and Ground. Flareon, pure Fire, keeps each of its three weaknesses at 2x.
Fire resists six types, second only to Steel. In 1996 it resisted only Bug, Fire and Grass; Ice and Steel joined in Generation II and Fairy in 2013. A Grass partner resists Water and Ground, two of its three threats.
3. Water: Only Grass and Electric

Weak to: Electric, Grass | Resists: Fire, Water, Ice, Steel
Pairings change Water’s short list: Water/Flying Gyarados takes 4x from Electric, while Water/Ground Quagsire and Rock/Water Omastar take 4x from Grass. Vaporeon, pure Water, takes 2x from both.
Water resists Fire, Water, Ice and Steel, and its defensive matchups have not changed since 1996 apart from Steel joining that list. A Grass or Dragon partner covers it, since both resist Grass and Electric.
4. Electric: Ground Is the Lone Threat

Weak to: Ground | Resists: Electric, Flying, Steel
Electric’s one weakness is Ground, and Electric/Steel Magnezone and Electric/Poison Toxtricity take 4x from it. Jolteon, pure Electric, takes 2x, matching Normal for the fewest weaknesses of any type. Water/Electric Lanturn keeps Ground at 2x but adds Grass.
Electric resists Electric, Flying and Steel, with Steel added in 1999. A Flying-type partner is the natural cover, since Flying ignores Ground completely. Thirty-five species are pure Electric.
5. Grass: Five Weaknesses to Watch

Weak to: Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, Bug | Resists: Water, Electric, Grass, Ground
Grass has five weaknesses, and dual types stack them: Bug/Grass Parasect takes 4x from Fire and Flying, Grass/Flying Jumpluff takes 4x from Ice, and Grass/Psychic Exeggutor takes 4x from Bug. Leafeon keeps all five at 2x.
Grass resists Water, Electric, Grass and Ground, the same four as in 1996. A Steel partner resists or ignores four of its five threats: Ice, Bug, Flying and Poison.
6. Ice: One Resistance, Four Weaknesses

Weak to: Fire, Fighting, Rock, Steel | Resists: Ice
Ice/Flying Articuno takes 4x from Rock, Dark/Ice Weavile takes 4x from Fighting, and Rock/Ice Aurorus takes 4x from both Fighting and Steel. Regice, pure Ice, takes 2x from all four of its threats.
Ice resists only itself; among the 18 types, only Normal resists less. It gained its Steel weakness in 1999. A Water-type partner resists both Fire and Steel, and 16 species are pure Ice.
7. Fighting: Psychic, Flying and Fairy

Weak to: Flying, Psychic, Fairy | Resists: Bug, Rock, Dark
Bug/Fighting Heracross and Grass/Fighting Breloom take 4x from Flying, Poison/Fighting Toxicroak takes 4x from Psychic, and Dark/Fighting Scrafty takes 4x from Fairy. Hitmonlee, pure Fighting, takes 2x.
Fighting resists Rock, Bug and Dark; the Dark resistance dates to 1999, and Fairy became its third weakness in 2013. A Steel-type partner resists all three of its weaknesses, and 28 species are pure Fighting.
8. Poison: Ground and Psychic Only

Weak to: Ground, Psychic | Resists: Grass, Fighting, Poison, Bug, Fairy
Poison/Fire Salazzle and Electric/Poison Toxtricity take 4x from Ground, and Poison/Fighting Toxicroak takes 4x from Psychic. Arbok, pure Poison, has just the two weaknesses at 2x.
Poison resists five types, Fairy included since 2013, and in Generation I it was also weak to Bug. A Flying partner ignores Ground, and a Dark partner ignores Psychic. Sixteen species are pure Poison.
9. Ground: Water, Grass and Ice

Weak to: Water, Grass, Ice | Resists: Poison, Rock | Immune to: Electric
Rock/Ground Golem and Rhydon take 4x from Water and Grass, while Dragon/Ground Garchomp and Ground/Flying Gliscor take 4x from Ice. Donphan, pure Ground, takes 2x from each.
Ground is immune to Electric and resists Poison and Rock, a profile unchanged since 1996. A Dragon-type partner resists both Water and Grass, the two most common of its threats.
10. Flying: Electric, Ice and Rock

Weak to: Electric, Ice, Rock | Resists: Grass, Fighting, Bug | Immune to: Ground
Water/Flying Gyarados takes 4x from Electric, Fire/Flying Charizard and Bug/Flying Butterfree take 4x from Rock, and Dragon/Flying Salamence takes 4x from Ice. Rookidee, pure Flying, takes 2x.
Flying ignores Ground and resists Fighting, Bug and Grass, a set unchanged since 1996. A Steel partner resists Ice and Rock, and a Ground partner ignores Electric.
11. Psychic: Bug, Ghost and Dark

Weak to: Bug, Ghost, Dark | Resists: Fighting, Psychic
Grass/Psychic Exeggutor and Dark/Psychic Malamar take 4x from Bug, and Psychic/Ghost Lunala takes 4x from both Ghost and Dark. Espeon, pure Psychic, takes 2x from all three.
In 1996 Bug was Psychic’s only weakness; Ghost became super effective and Dark arrived in 1999. Psychic resists Fighting and itself. A Fairy-type partner resists Bug and Dark. Thirty-nine species are pure Psychic.
12. Bug: Fire, Flying and Rock

Weak to: Fire, Flying, Rock | Resists: Grass, Fighting, Ground
Bug/Steel Scizor takes 4x from Fire, Bug/Flying Scyther takes 4x from Rock, and Ice/Bug Frosmoth takes 4x from both Fire and Rock. Caterpie, pure Bug, takes 2x from all three.
Bug resists Fighting, Ground and Grass, and in Generation I it was also weak to Poison. Two of its weaknesses, Fire and Flying, also resist Bug attacks. A Steel partner resists Rock and Flying.
13. Rock: Five Weaknesses, Four Resistances

Weak to: Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, Steel | Resists: Normal, Fire, Poison, Flying
Rock/Ground Golem takes 4x from Water and Grass, Rock/Dark Tyranitar takes 4x from Fighting, and Steel/Rock Aggron takes 4x from both Fighting and Ground. Regirock, pure Rock, takes 2x.
Rock resists Normal, Fire, Poison and Flying, and Steel became its fifth weakness in 1999. A Flying-type partner covers three of its threats: it resists Grass and Fighting and ignores Ground.
14. Ghost: Two Immunities, Two Weaknesses

Weak to: Ghost, Dark | Resists: Poison, Bug | Immune to: Normal, Fighting
Ghost fears only Ghost and Dark, and only Psychic/Ghost Pokémon such as Lunala and Hoopa take 4x from both. Mismagius, pure Ghost, takes 2x, as do the other 15 pure Ghost species.
Ghost is immune to Normal and Fighting and resists Poison and Bug; no other type has two immunities. Dark became a weakness in 1999. A Dark-type partner resists both of its threats.
15. Dragon: Ice, Dragon and Fairy

Weak to: Ice, Dragon, Fairy | Resists: Fire, Water, Electric, Grass
Dragon/Ground Garchomp and Grass/Dragon Flapple take 4x from Ice, while Dark/Dragon Hydreigon and Dragon/Fighting Kommo-o take 4x from Fairy. Haxorus, pure Dragon, takes 2x; it is one of only 13 pure Dragon species.
Dragon resists Fire, Water, Grass and Electric, and Fairy joined its weaknesses in 2013 to balance the type. A Steel partner resists Ice, Dragon and Fairy alike.
16. Dark: Bug, Fighting and Fairy

Weak to: Fighting, Bug, Fairy | Resists: Ghost, Dark | Immune to: Psychic
Dark/Ice Weavile and Dark/Steel Kingambit take 4x from Fighting, Grass/Dark Shiftry takes 4x from Bug, and Dark/Dragon Hydreigon takes 4x from Fairy. Absol, pure Dark, takes 2x.
Dark is immune to Psychic and resists Ghost and itself. Gold and Silver introduced it in 1999, and Fairy became its third weakness in 2013. A Poison partner resists Fighting, Bug and Fairy.
17. Steel: Ten Resistances, Three Weaknesses

Weak to: Fire, Fighting, Ground | Resists: Normal, Grass, Ice, Flying, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Dragon, Steel, Fairy | Immune to: Poison
Electric/Steel Magnezone takes 4x from Ground, Bug/Steel Forretress takes 4x from Fire, and Rock/Steel Bastiodon takes 4x from both Fighting and Ground. Klinklang, pure Steel, takes 2x.
Steel resists 10 types and ignores Poison, the longest resistance list on the chart. It lost its Ghost and Dark resistances in 2013 and gained Fairy’s. A Water partner resists Fire, and a Flying partner ignores Ground.
18. Fairy: Poison and Steel Only

Weak to: Poison, Steel | Resists: Fighting, Bug, Dark | Immune to: Dragon
Grass/Fairy Whimsicott takes 4x from Poison, and Rock/Fairy Carbink takes 4x from Steel. Clefable, pure Fairy, takes 2x from both, and Fairy ties Water, Poison and Ghost with just two weaknesses.
Fairy ignores Dragon and resists Fighting, Bug and Dark. Before X and Y, Clefable was a Normal-type weak to Fighting. A Steel-type partner ignores Poison and resists Steel.
Two Types, One Weakness List
A dual type multiplies both columns of the chart, so weaknesses can cancel. Bulbasaur is Grass/Poison: Grass is weak to Poison and Bug, but Poison resists both, so they drop to neutral. Its official weaknesses are Fire, Flying, Ice and Psychic, and Grass moves deal only 0.25x.
Stacking works the other way too. Ferrothorn, a Grass/Steel type, has only two weaknesses, but Fire hits both of its types for 4x damage. Gyarados, Water/Flying, takes 4x from Electric and nothing from Ground.
Pokemon Types With the Most and Fewest Weaknesses
- Five weaknesses: Grass and Rock.
- Four weaknesses: Ice.
- One weakness: Normal (Fighting) and Electric (Ground).
- Most resistances: Steel with 10, then Fire with 6 and Poison with 5.
- Fewest resistances: Normal with none and Ice with one.
From Red and Green to Scarlet and Violet
Pocket Monsters Red and Green reached Japan on February 27, 1996, on the Game Boy, a forerunner of today’s gaming handhelds. That chart had 15 types, and Ghost moves had no effect on Psychic.
Gold and Silver added Steel and Dark in 1999. Pokémon X and Y added Fairy on October 12, 2013, and took away Steel’s Ghost and Dark resistances. Marill and Azumarill became Water/Fairy, and Jigglypuff became Normal/Fairy. The newest entry, Legends: Z-A, arrived on October 16, 2025, among the Nintendo Switch 2 games.
Tera Types Rewrite a Pokémon’s Weaknesses
In Scarlet and Violet, released on November 18, 2022, a Pokémon can Terastallize once per battle, and the transformation lasts until the battle ends, according to the official Terastal phenomenon description. A Terastallized Pokémon becomes a pure Tera Type, so its old weaknesses disappear.
A Grass-type with a Fire Tera Type, for example, stops fearing Bug and starts fearing Water. The Stellar Tera Type is the exception: it keeps the original weaknesses and resistances.
Weaknesses in Pokémon GO
Pokémon GO uses the same matchups but softer numbers. A weakness deals 1.6x, a resistance 0.625x, and an immunity becomes a double resistance at 0.390625x, so a Ghost-type still takes a little damage from Normal moves.
Double weaknesses reach 2.56x rather than 4x. GO launched in 2016; for more phone titles, see our guide to the best mobile games.
How to Cover Your Team’s Weak Spots
- List every weakness across your six Pokémon and count repeats.
- Add a Pokémon that resists or is immune to the most repeated threat, such as a Flying-type against Ground.
- Pair types whose weaknesses cancel, like Bulbasaur’s Grass and Poison.
- Use Steel as a wall: 10 resistances and a Poison immunity cover a lot of a team.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Pokémon type has the most resistances?
Steel resists 10 types and is immune to Poison. Fire is second with six resistances.
Does any Pokémon type have no weaknesses?
No. Every one of the 18 types has at least one; Normal and Electric come closest with a single weakness each.
What is super effective against Fairy?
Poison and Steel. Fairy resists Fighting, Bug and Dark and is immune to Dragon.
What is a 4x weakness?
It happens when both of a Pokémon’s types are weak to the same attack, such as Electric against Gyarados or Rock against Charizard. The two 2x multipliers stack.
