Fortnite Sprites are small collectible companions that ride along on your back, and each one gives you a single passive ability. Chapter 7 Season 4: Override brought in a whole new generation of Sprites, and Epic has added more in every update since. This guide lists every Sprite released so far and what it does.

You find Sprites in matches, level them up and extract them to keep them for later games. Last season’s Sprites have not disappeared: they moved into Sprite Garden, a separate mode, while Battle Royale uses the new set.

All Fortnite Sprites in Override and What They Do

Abilities are condensed from Epic’s own descriptions. Most grow stronger as the Sprite levels up.

How to Get Sprites in Fortnite

Find a Sprite during a match and extract it to add it to your collection. Extract it again once it reaches max level and you master it. There are four main ways to find them:

  • Cheat Codes: arrow sequences tucked into POIs and sprayed on walls. Enter one correctly to free a Sprite. Rare (blue) and Epic (purple) codes can drop Sprites of any rarity, and Legendary (orange) codes always drop a variant.
  • Lobby Hacks: codes typed into the Admin Panel in the lobby, several of which give Cheat Master or Gold Sprites outright. Our Fortnite admin panel codes page keeps the working list.
  • Eliminations: from 24 September, Bounty Hunter variants can appear when you eliminate an opponent.
  • Exploring: Sprites spawn around the Island, and the Cheat Code Locator Gizmo points you to the nearest code.

Luck works in your favour the longer you go without a new find, because Epic raises your chance of a variant you do not own after a dry spell. Duplicates are not wasted either: extracting a Sprite you already have gives Sprite XP to the copy in your collection.

Sprite Variants: Gold, Cheat Master, Loot Hacker and Bounty Hunter

Sprites also come in variants. Each one keeps the Sprite’s normal ability and adds a bonus on top:

  • Gold: more XP from eliminations. Epic hacks Gold variants into the game during Power Hours.
  • Cheat Master: every input at a Cheat Code console counts as correct. Mastering the Crown Sprite grants its Cheat Master version, and several Lobby Hack codes hand them out directly.
  • Loot Hacker: raises the chance that items from your Loot Hacks spawn. These arrived in early September.
  • Bounty Hunter: appear when you eliminate opponents and level up only from eliminations. They went live on 24 September.

How to Enter a Cheat Code for a Sprite

Cheat Codes are the most reliable way to target Sprites, and they take a few seconds once you know what to look for:

  1. Look for a code sprayed on a wall or tucked into a POI. A Cheat Code Locator Gizmo marks the nearest one if you have it.
  2. Walk up and interact with it to bring up the input.
  3. Enter the arrow sequence it shows, in order.
  4. Collect the Sprite it frees, then extract it before the match ends.

Epic adjusted some sequences in September so they feel more natural to input, and fixed codes that were hard to interact with unless you stood at exactly the right angle. If a code will not respond, step around it and try again.

Gizmos That Speed Up Sprite Hunting

Gizmos are consumable items that shortcut Sprite extraction. They come from Lobby Hack codes and the Mastery track, and four arrived with Override:

  • Cheat Code Locator: finds the nearest Cheat Code.
  • Extraction Accelerator: silently starts a nearby Extraction Site and summons the Extraction Crate instantly.
  • Llama Supply Drop: calls a boosted, llama-themed Supply Drop to where you are standing.
  • Spicy Taco: heals you and adds a speed and stamina boost. Eat it with your squad for a Taco Time party.

Epic also made Sprites easier to handle this season. You can now see in a match whether you have already collected a Sprite, its name appears when you get close, and summoning takes a shorter button hold than it did in Season 3.

Sprite Dust, Loot Hacks and Mastery Rewards

Sprite Dust is the season’s Sprite currency, and you spend it in three places:

  • Summoning rare Sprites and variants into a match.
  • Loot Hacks, which add bonus items to your Chests that you cannot find anywhere else.
  • Resummoning a mastered Sprite, which costs half the usual amount.

Loot Hacks refresh during the season with a new set of weapons and items. Dust spent on one set can be reset freely, but it does not carry into the next set. Since the 3 September update, hacked weapons drop at Rare to Legendary quality rather than Epic to Mythic, because Epic found too many high-powered weapons turning up.

Mastering Sprites fills a Mastery track with rewards and Gizmos. Extracting 30 Sprites earns the Pixel Sprite Trainer Back Bling, the track includes a Pixel Polli Outfit, and Epic has promised a more pixelated Style for mastering 70 Sprites later in the season.

Sprites in Ranked and the Sprite Garden

Sprites are not in Ranked Battle Royale. They launched there with their powers switched off, then Epic vaulted them on 28 August while it decides whether gathering Sprites fits the Ranked loot pool.

Season 3 Sprites live on in Sprite Garden, where you can play with them and show your collection to friends. They do not come back into Battle Royale.

Sprite Events: New Sprite Day, Mastery Mondays and Power Hours

Epic runs Sprite events through the week and posts the schedule on its social channels every Sunday. The regular ones are:

  • New Sprite Day: new Sprites or variants join the game, as the Bounty Hunter variants did on Thursday 24 September.
  • Mastery Mondays: back since 7 September, and the best day to level up your roster.
  • Power Hours: Saturday sessions from 2 to 4 PM ET and again from 9 to 11 PM ET, with boosted Sprite types and extra items at the drop.

Collabs feed the roster too. Sonic, Tails, Mega Man and Crash Bandicoot all have Sprites this season, and Shop collabs such as the Cyberpunk Edgerunners Lucy skin keep arriving alongside them.

Which Fortnite Sprite to Use

Pick by how you usually lose fights. Overshield and Jonesy help you survive trades, X-Ray helps you spot opponents first, and Sonic, Jackrabbit and Pond get you across the map faster. Shadow suits players who swap weapons a lot, since it reloads the ones you are not holding.

Crown only levels up when you win and Klombo only when you heal, so treat them as collection goals rather than everyday picks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do Sprites do in Fortnite?
