GTA 5 cheats are typed into the game in a different way on each platform, so this guide is sorted the same way: PlayStation first, then Xbox, then the PC console words, then the phone numbers that work on all of them. Pick your section and you will not need to scroll past inputs you cannot use.
Every cheat here is for Story Mode. They do nothing in GTA Online, none of them adds money, and using one only pauses trophies and achievements until you reload.
Before You Enter a GTA 5 Cheat
- Get past the opening. Cheats start working once a new save reaches the open world as Franklin, after the first mission.
- Stay in free roam. Starting a mission switches active cheats off, and some moments block them with a “Cheat Denied” message.
- Save first. A clean save is your way back to earning trophies and achievements.
- Use the D-pad. Left, Right, Up and Down in a combination never mean the analog stick.

Spawns That Need a Story Mode Unlock
Three vehicles have no controller combination and only spawn once you have met them in the story. On PlayStation and Xbox, the phone is the way to call them.
- Duke O’Death armored muscle car. Complete the Duel random event, then type DEATHCAR on PC or dial 1-999-3328-4227.
- Dodo seaplane. Complete the Sea Plane random event, then type EXTINCT on PC or dial 1-999-398-4628.
- Kraken submarine. Complete the Wildlife Photography Challenge, then type BUBBLES on PC or dial 1-999-282-2537.
Director Mode is the other phone-only entry on consoles. It opens a mode for playing as a cast of characters and staging scenes around Los Santos.
How Rockstar Handles Cheats, Saves and Trophies
Rockstar answers the common questions in a support article on GTA V cheats and achievements: saving is allowed while a cheat is on, and achievements are disabled only temporarily. Reloading a save or restarting resets every cheat and the trophy lock with it.
- Entering the same cheat a second time turns most cheats off, though not every one.
- Invincibility runs for five minutes, then needs entering again.
- Slow motion and bullet time each work in three steps, so enter them three times in a row for the full effect.
- The Wanted cheats move one star per entry.
Grand Theft Auto V came out in 2013, and its cheats have stayed the same through the console and PC releases that followed.
If a GTA 5 Cheat Does Nothing
Most of the time the input was too slow or used the stick instead of the D-pad. After that, check that you are using the table for your console, that no mission is running, and, for the Duke O'Death, Dodo and Kraken, that you have finished the event that unlocks them.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the GTA 5 cheat for invincibility?
PAINKILLER on PC, or dial 1-999-724-654-5537 on any platform. It lasts five minutes, so enter it again when it runs out.
Can you get unlimited money with GTA 5 cheats?
No. There has never been a money cheat in GTA 5. Cash in Story Mode comes from missions, heists and the stock market.
Do GTA 5 cheats work on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions?
Yes. The PS5 version takes the PlayStation combinations and the Xbox Series X|S version takes the Xbox ones, and the phone numbers work on both.
Will GTA 5 cheats stop me earning trophies for good?
No. Cheats lock trophies and achievements only for that session. Reload a save or restart and they unlock again.
